This Easter Sunday I followed up my 3rd place finish in the Riverchasers tournament with a 19th place finish out of 1,248 in the Early Double -B. Full Tilt Poker always has a bunch of great promotions going on. I have been on a slump with in cash games and the Sit N Gos on FTP feel so out of wack to me. The structure is not that different from PokerStars but for some reason I haven’t been able to adjust. I have been playing very well in MTT’s as of late. Friday evening I played bar poker and I finished in second place.
I decided to stick with whats been working lately so I found a good tournament to enter in the afternoon. I had planned to go out to dinner with the family but if I could make it deep in these then I would have an excuse to miss out. Not that I didn’t want to spend time with my family, it’s just they were eating dinner at 4pm and that’s way too early. I also wanted to get some stuff around the house and work on one of my web projects. The doubles promotion that Full Tilt has going on right now fit the time and my bankroll.
Look for these daily $5 + $1 tournaments at 16:00 ET and 16:02 ET. You must enter both tournaments in order to qualify for the Early Double. Fifty cents ($.50) from every tournament registration will go toward the daily progressive jackpot. Players can win money from the jackpot four different ways:
- Cash in both tournaments (Double Cash) - All players who finish in the money in both qualifying Daily Double tournaments will share a total of 3% of the day’s jackpot. This prize will be paid each day.
- Be the best finisher in both tournaments (Best Double Finish) - The person who achieves the highest combined finish in both Daily Double tournaments will receive 2% of the day’s jackpot. This prize will be paid each day and the winner will be determined by taking the average of each player’s finish in each tournament, as follows:
- If you finish third in one tournament and 12th in the second, your combined finish would be 15th, and your average finish would be 7.5.
- If there is a tie for the best finish, the money will be shared between the qualifying players.
I really like these tournaments and I think that they will become my Sunday games. I would have been able to go pretty deep in the Early - A as well but I suffered a beat to one of the chip leaders. I believe if I win that hand that I would have cashed in both events. I did get extremely lucky in the B event to move to second place. I pretty much self destructed in one round of blinds to get knocked out of the tournament which was pretty disappointing considering I could have scored $100 + for the final table instead of $29. Anyway, Lets review some hand histories.
Early Double - A
I was among the top of the chip leaders early. I had another chip leader at my table who was just playing awful. He was throwing chips around just trying to bust people with his big stack. On more than a couple occasions he had raised, been re-raised, and pushed all-in effectively putting the re-raiser all-in with hands like Jd7d.

Early Double - B
About 6 hands in I got a pretty good size pot with JJ.

At the 60/120 level I won a big pot against Sellthekids and another player. This hand would set me up to coast for awhile stealing blinds occasionally to maintain my stack size.

The big stack at my table had been playing a lot of hands and splashing chips around. He liked to check raise a lot with top pair. Usually when he made a play like this he was playing Ace rag.

Folded pretty much until this hand which I played horrible. I thought his raise was a blind steal, which it was. I figured he missed the flop with a Cbet so I check raised and lost a good size pot. I was going to raise all-in preflop but chickened out and played this one bad anyway you look at it.

Lesson learned from the previous hand.

Picked up some blinds and won a couple coin flips up to this point. This was a huge hand that I was exteremly lucky to win. I was just trying to pick up the pot thinking the guy wouldn’t put his tourney life on the line with just top pair. Bad read by me with a very lucky result. This put me securly in second place for awhile.

A sick run of cards put me up over 300K

Lost a few hands after those. I was able to make a good fold here, but things took a quick turn downward after this hand. I’m not sure what the SB was calling here with. I couldn’t imagine I was ahead or even in a 50-50 so I folded.

In retrospect I probably could have folded and let things chill out for a while. The table had been very active and there were huge hands shown down. The rest of the hands below lead up to my bust out.

I’m very happy with the way I’ve been playing as of late. I just wish I could have held onto my chips a little longer here and made a huge score. I’m still looking for that one huge win. This has been a big week for bloggers with Smokkee and LJ having their biggest tourney cash. Any coincidence people are making huge cashes while the BBT3 is going on? I think not
