Aussie Millions Poker Championship Prize Pack

There was lots of poker played this past week. It started with a trip to Black Hawk on Saturday, My favorite local game on Monday, and a couple of online sessions yesterday and today. I’ve been a pretty big fan of Cake Poker lately but haven’t had a chance to deposit yet. I’ve just been playing their freerolls trying to get a shot a a free bankroll. I’d like to host some tournaments once I get some more players signed up and I get a roll established there. So sign-up would ya!?! ;) For now, my money will stay on Poker Stars.

Saturday after sleeping in and cleaning around the house all day, some friends and I decided to head up the Hill. I’ve been playing at Colorado Central Station as of late because I really like the room and the play is horrible. I was doing well and so was my friend. We were both sitting at $400 at a $2-$5 table after a couple hours and only 1 buy-in, in. I was playing pretty well but then I couldn’t get away from AA. This kid to my left was playing almost all of his hands and it was ridiculous how many sets he hit through out the night. I mean seriously, he hit about 17 sets. He played his small pocket pairs so hard like he just knew it was coming. I couldn’t wait to get some of his stack.

I had AA in the blind and he limped UTG with another really weak/bad player limping in middle position. I popped it to $7 and he called. At this point the middle position player re-raised, something I had only seen him do twice all night. Both times he had AK and AA respectively. When the action got back to me I raised and UTG called. I know the kid has a very weak hand and the MP player has a strong holding. We see a $90 capped flop that showed nothing but queen high. I led and the kid called. The action got capped on the flop for another $90. The turn is another blank and another capped turn for $90. The river was a 3rd queen and the kid raised me this time. Middle position and I both call to see his Q-8 off suit. Awesome! I began to tilt. It’s probably no surprise I was already a bit tipsy so I ended the night 3 buy-ins down for -$300. I’m more upset about my play over the next 2 hours more than this hand it’s self. It doesn’t help that I lost every hand I played for the next 2 hours, but you gotta maintain or I should say, regain your composure.

After going out to watch the baseball game on Monday my friend talked me into going to the local game here. It’s a $0.50/$1 game and it’s the best game I’ve found. I won’t post any details here to respect the people who run the game. I made the mistake of posting the details of a tournament they were having and they got a little upset. I talked with the guy who runs the game and let him know that it was also posted on some forums, so I was not to blame completely. Also, they are considered a social club so they could have turned away people who were not members. Still, I was wrong and apologized. I also took the post down immediately once I realized it was a problem. We talked it out and I believe everything is on the up and up. He is a person I have a great deal of respect for and I hope he shares my sediments and understands where I was coming from. I started the game out playing super loose and was down a couple buy-ins right away. Long story short I ended up +$ and broke about even for the weekend. I was not playing well, but I was hitting and winning many uncontested pots. Nothing exciting so we’ll leave it at that.

In online news, I blew through the $25 my friend shipped me in two days. I just can not sit there and grind out $0.01/$0.02 NL. A bad run of $10 NL and my $25 could have been better spent. I decided it was time to take the plunge and make a deposit. While not thrilled about it, I made a $45 on Poker Stars and got off and running. I realized that I had been playing full tables and I tend to do much better at $10 NL 6-max. I doubled that up a couple times and got to almost even. The last two days I’ve taken first and second in $5.50 sit-n-go’s so the roll is up so far for the month. It sucks to have such a small roll online and as you can tell, I play way above my bankroll. This is good practice for me though as I have always had bankroll management issues. Now that I’m close to the $100 mark I’ll be trying to pay more attention to that aspect of my game. I’ve also been going over my poker tacker stats. I always thought that poker tracker was over rated but thanks to to this ebook, I’m starting to get a great understanding about what all those silly numbers mean! So, while it was kind of a tough week for poker, it was really nice to get back on the horse after a week of getting my dick kicked in.

Side Note: I just noticed how much Freddie Deeb looks like a midget while I was watching the H.O.R.S.E tournament. Not that I have anything against midgets. Just his head is rather disproportionate to his body, just saying…..
